You may choose to join in our group water exercises where you will work on strength and flexibility or you may choose to exercise independently on cardiovascular conditioning, walking ability, or general fitness. For those students who need additional help, we do have trained assistants. We also have a pool lift for those students who need help getting in and out of the water.

This is a great class for students at all levels that are interested in improving their cardiovascular (aerobic) fitness. In this class we use the track, the stairs, the campus trails and surrounding areas to exercise. Each student is given an individualized walking and/or jogging program, depending on the fitness level of each student. This class is great for increasing aerobic capacity, reducing overall body fat, gaining lean body mass, improving walking/jogging speed and skill, and having fun.

ADAPTED EVALUATION
ADAP 875

This is where we find out how you are actually doing in the adapted PE program. In this class, we test your progress through monitoring your blood pressure and resting heart rate, testing how your heart responds to exercise, testing your flexibility, your flexibility, your strength, how well you’re walking, even your body composition and posture! We use this information to help you in meeting your fitness goals.

CPR/FIRST AID
PE 680

This class will teach the students adult, child, and infant CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and standard first aid. Often times people “freeze” in an emergency situation and they will not know what to do. In this class we practice emergency scenarios and help to provide the students with the confidence and the skills necessary to provide care to a victim as a “first responder.” This class is taught in compliance with the American Red Cross.
