For workouts you need a traditional white karate uniform, called a gi. Judo gis are usually too heavy for karate workouts. Tae Kwon Do uniforms and those of other styles are not appropriate.

There are many brands and styles of karate gis. Be sure to specify a traditional style. (Some pants may require hemming) Gis also come in several weights. Light or medium weight are fine. Heavy weight lasts longer, but is more expensive. Most gis come with a white belt. Price will vary according to the size of the gi. See the chart below for sizing.

There are several sources in the Bay Area to purchase a karate gi. I am familiar with the following establishment and know that they stock the proper type. The owner of the RED Store in San Mateo has agreed to offer Skyline Karate Club students an excellent discount on uniforms. In order to qualify, you must have Mr. Larson's signature on the printed version of this form.

The "Armani" of the karate gi is a company called Tokaido. Their uniforms are of very high quality but are also VERY expensive!

In addition, you may wish to purchase your uniform through one of the many mail-order martial arts supply houses. Check in one of the martial arts magazines, but buyer beware!
