Course Description


Music Fundamentals introduces the student to the basics of music - Sound and Time, and how they interact to create the compositions we have all learned to enjoy.

 

Under the umbrella of Time, students learn about Meter and how musicians notate the vast varieties of Rhythms which are available.

 

Under the umbrella of Sound, students explore Scales, Chords and Key Signatures, and learn why these aspects are important.

 

Music Fundamentals is also creative. Using the knowledge gained in class, students are asked to compose their own compositions, which are then performed in class.

 

 

Materials

There is no required text.

Music Notation paper and a good pencil with eraser are required.

 

 

 

Grading Information

The average of all quizzes equals half of the final grade.
The average of two projects, a mid-term and a final, equals the other half of the final grade.

I do not factor in attendance. Experience has shown that a student's grade usually mirrors his/her attendance.
