Getting Started!

Step-by-step process for high school/ROP/Job Train students:

  1. Students learn about Tech Prep and the articulation agreements from counselors or teachers. If a student is enrolled in a course that articulates with one of the San Mateo County Community Colleges, he/she should work with the teacher to determine the student's eligibility for the Tech Prep certificate. This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete the articulated class as measured by course grade, performance on an assessment exam, and/or attainment of identified skills.

  2. The High School/ROP/Job Train teacher distributes the Tech Prep certificate application to students who meet the criteria for articulated units. Students complete and sign the application. The teacher or site coordinator signs the application, which is forwarded to one of the three colleges.

  3. The certificate is prepared, signed, and returned to the high school/ROP/Job Train for signature and distribution to students.

  4. To receive the college units indicated on the certificate, students must earn at least six units of college work at one of the three San Mateo community colleges with at least a 2.0 GPA.. When this residency has been completed, the college units are automatically posted to the student transcript if the student is attending the college with the articulation agreement. If, however, the student attends a San Mateo community college other than the one with the articulated course, the student must make contact with the tech prep college contact in order to ensure that the units are posted.
